I am Craig McFarlane, Oscar to my friends, peers, & athletes. I am a performance coach, an applied sports scientist, a builder of culture, and a creator of community. Studied Exercise Physiology & Human Nutrition. An amazing 23 year career as a performance coach for multiple professional sports - sailing, triathlon, & rugby. That has enabled me to live & work in several countries and allowed me to do two things I am passionate about – travel and help people develop & realize their potential. I have played & coached multiple sports, but my focus is to develop programs, share knowledge, and promote the importance of human performance in Sailing, Triathlon, & lifestyle fitness athletes.
Sailing
I work at the highest level in Sailing with the world's best sailors, having done multiple America’s Cups as physical performance manager with Oracle Team USA. Currently Performance Consultant for the Danish & USA Sail GP teams.
I also work with amateur and professional athletes across all major classes of boats – Opti, Laser, 29er, Nacra, Moth, F50, 69FX, M32, J70, RC44, TP52, Maxis…
Endurance - Triathlon, Cycling, & Running
A massive driver of mine is to educate the triathlon community – both coaches and athletes, on the importance of strength training in endurance sports. How the implementation of a comprehensive & progressive periodized off + in-season strength plan can not only impact performance but build resilience & injury prevention to a high volume discipline. I provide amateur and professional triathletes with detailed strength, recovery, and injury prevention plans.
Rugby
I built my coaching foundation & training philosophy working with the worlds best Rugby Union teams and athletes, as head strength & conditioning coach - 3 years with the Wellington Lions and Hurricanes Super Rugby team, New Zealand, then 8 years with the London Saracens, UK. Winning multiple titles.
